Ghosts 'n Goblins Resurrection

Back in 1985, Capcom released the legendary game Ghosts' n Goblins. The game was released on arcade machines and the NES console. In the role of knight Arthur, we had to save the princess while fighting all sorts of evil spirits.
It was real hardcore. The armor withstood one hit of the enemy, and then our character was left unprotected in only shorts, the second hit was fatal.
In 2021, a remake called Ghosts' n Goblins Resurrection was released.
This is the same classic platformer, but improved and reimagined. In addition to the obvious graphical changes, there are also new mechanics. In the updated version, various skills have been added to help in battle. Enemies have become much more diverse and interesting. The main weapon has also become more diverse, each weapon to be picked up differs in mechanics.
Also, the passage has become not entirely linear, we are offered a choice of two locations at once, after passing each of which new ones will open. The upper location repeats the original from the NES, and the lower levels from Super Ghouls'n Ghosts from the Super Nintendo console. it is not necessary to go through both at once, in the end both paths will lead us to the same final.
Even though the original was a really challenging game, Resurrection took the difficulty bar to the next level. But in order not to destroy your nerves right away, the developers have added several levels of difficulty, at the easiest of which our character can take 3-4 hits, and will also be reborn at the point of death, and not start the whole level all over again.
As a result, we have an excellent remake with excellent reworked graphics and music, as well as gameplay innovations. I recommend it to all fans of old-school platformers.
Battle City Remake

I'm sure everyone knows about Battle City. This legendary game was on every multiplayer cartridge. I spent an incredible amount of time destroying enemy vehicles alone or with a friend.
Also, we had a popular unofficial version of TANK 1990, where there were many modes in one of which modifiers could raise enemy tanks, and there was also a “pistol” modifier giving the effect of three collected stars.
Few people know that there was a continuation of this game from the same developer namcot called tank force. The game was released in 1991 only on arcade machines, and therefore in our area almost no one heard about it.
These are the same tanks as before, with improved drawing, as well as bosses at every fourth level, compared to its predecessor, the game is more dynamic. If you want to try it in practice, you can always install an emulator such as Retroarch. In one of the previous videos, I talked in detail about this emulator and how to play the original old games with it.
An unofficial remake of the classic Battle City was released in 2020. And this is really a remake that deserves your attention. It is assembled on the Unity engine and is an original game inside and out, without any complications and innovations. Two-dimensional textures were replaced with full-fledged 3D models. The graphics are commendable. Destructible blocks are effectively shattered into particles, and the dynamic texture of the water is pleasing to the eye. Everything else is unchanged, the developer also left the original sounds. Battle City Remake can be played alone or together using a keyboard or gamepad.
I definitely recommend that Battle City Remake is capable of both evoking nostalgia and giving new emotions.

NINJA GAIDEN: Master Collection

Ninja ... in every self-respecting dandy game there should be a ninja.
The dandy at one time had a very cool and popular game Ninja Gaiden, a rather complex and interesting bit'e map.
In general, the Ninja gaiden series has quite a few games. In 2004, the franchise was restarted with games for the current generation of consoles, later in 2007 an updated version of NINJA GAIDEN SIGMA was released. It was a modern console slasher. In the same year, NINJA GAIDEN: Master Collection was released for PCs and current generation consoles, which includes 3 parts of the NINJA GAIDEN version of SIGMA. For those who remember 8 bit adventures, or played the updated version on consoles, it will be interesting.
This is a solid and very hardcore slasher like DMC or God of War. With pleasant, albeit very outdated graphics. However, the gameplay component is still at a decent level even in 2021. And in terms of difficulty, it will easily compete with the same souls - like games, so get ready for the fact that you will have to die often. All three parts are endowed with a good storyline and good gameplay. The third one seemed to me the most bloody and hardcore.
In fact, the Master Collection is a port of the SIGMA versions of the Playstation 3 with higher resolution and texture quality. A little overshadowing the joy is the fact that in the SIGMA versions, blood and dismemberment are rather cut off, and given that the game seems to be about a dude who chops everyone left and right with a sword, this is something like that. Since these games were only a console exclusive, it's nice that now they can be played by PCs too.
YAIBA: NINJA GAIDEN Z 2014

And then a little controversial game. This is a spin-off of the main series of NINJA GAIDEN games called YAIBA: NINJA GAIDEN Z, released in 2014 for the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC consoles. Fans of the main games of the series did not enter this project, since it is strikingly different from its older counterparts, however, for PCs, the game seemed very not bad, the fact is that this is the first game in the NINJA GAIDEN universe released for personal computers.
The game features a new character and a separate story. As you may have guessed from the name, crowds of zombies await us here.
The graphics here are also with their own characteristics, it is made in a comic style like Borderlands.
This spin-off is not hardcore like the rest of the games in the franchise, but the dynamics here are at a very decent level. We have to endure zombies and occasionally parkour. Well, how to parkour, here it is presented as a QTE element. Know in time to press the right button, and everything will be top type.
In general, the game is good enough, the gameplay delivers, the graphics too. Among the enemies there are many mini bosses with their own characteristics, some can create electrical discharges, others spit fire, and so on. After finishing off each of these mini bosses, you can pick up his body part as a special weapon and use it a limited number of times.
In YAIBA: NINJA GAIDEN Z there is a bunch of peculiar humor, I think he will not go to everyone, but I personally did. In order not to try to describe it, I'll just show a couple of funny moments.
Appreciating this project as a full-fledged part of NINJA GAIDEN is clearly not worth it, as I said earlier, it is strikingly different, and most likely it will not be to the taste of connoisseurs of the series, but for fans of carbon monoxide slashers I can quite recommend it.
Personally, I was drawn into this game, and I had a lot of fun chopping the undead to the right and left.
Super Bomberman R

One of my favorite dandy games was Bomberman, more specifically Bomberman 2.
An eerily simple toy, but quite sticky. It is especially interesting to play not on the passage but against another player. And by the way, this is one of the few games where three of us could play at the same time. And in the PC version, up to five players.
In 2018, the updated Super Bomberman R game was released.
The principle naturally remained the same. The game even has a plot, and a rather long, I would even say too long introduction. You can also triple tournaments with friends and bots, including online.
The game has become more dynamic and colorful. Well, the two-dimensional world has been replaced with a full-fledged 3D with a top view.
Perhaps more about Super Bomberman R and not tell, if you are a fan of these games, you should go.
PAC-MAN Championship Edition DX+ 2007

And we continue to move through the classic arcade games. And what could be more classic than the good old PAC-MAN? I, frankly, was surprised when I found out that this series had new games in 2007 and 2016.
In 2007, the PAC-MAN Championship Edition was released for the PC, PS3, Xbox 360, PSP and Nintendo 3DS platforms, and in 2016 the PAC-MAN CHAMPIONSHIP EDITION 2 was released for the PC, PS4, Xbox ONE, Switch platforms.
These are updated versions of PAC-MAN with virtually unchanged mechanics.
In the new releases, there are several styles of cards and characters, as well as many levels. I will not say that I was an ardent fan of this game, moreover, as a child I practically did not play it, but I got stuck in new items.
PAC-MAN CHAMPIONSHIP EDITION 2

In PAC-MAN CHAMPIONSHIP EDITION 2, the standard mechanics have been changed. Now ghosts can be touched, even several times. And only after that they become aggroed and can devour our hero.
Also, ghosts have learned to form a ghostly snake, which we have to eat. Well, the updated mechanics in places really began to resemble a snake more than the classic PAC-MAN. Not everyone will like these changes. But the acquaintance was funny with both the new product of 2007 and the version of 2016.

Dune 2 3D

What is the very first real-time strategy you remember. Surely many will answer Dune 2.
Indeed, most of my friends first got acquainted with this wonderful genre thanks to Dune. I myself practically did not play in it at one time, since I am forever captivated by StarCraft.
Unfortunately, the series did not receive modern sequels in the strategy genre, and this did not suit some fans of the game, and a fan remake of Dune 2 called Dune 2 3D appeared on the Internet in 2020.
As the name itself implies, now the classic strategy is presented in real 3D graphics. All models of buildings and units are redrawn. The project has not yet been brought to the ideal, but definitely deserves attention.
The game is being developed by enthusiasts using the Unreal Engine 4. It is available for free, so everyone can check it out.

There was such a legendary fighting game as SAMURAI SHODOWN on Sega Mega Drive. This is quite an interesting and beautiful Japanese-style fighting game that has become legendary. In 2019, this fighting game received its own remake.
Despite the relevance of the Mortal Kombat and Injustice series, it definitely deserves attention. SAMURAI SHODOWN is not about complex combinations like in Mortal Kombat, but about reaction speed and battle tactics. Here you need to read the opponent's behavior and timely block the blow or perform the appropriate counter-move. Pressing all the buttons in a row in the hope of getting an epic combo will not work. To win, you have to act thoughtfully.
As in any self-respecting fighting game in SAMURAI SHODOWN there is both a story passage representing alternate battles with all the characters, and a battle mode both against the second player or against the AI.
The graphics are hand-drawn and look very decent. Although during the battle it can represent a mess of multi-colored pixels. Sometimes there are too many effects. In general, the remake follows the traditions of the original. For lovers of Asian fighting games, the most it.
River City Ransom - Underground 2017

In 1989, the famous Beat 'em up - River City Ransom came out on the NES.
In 2017, a remake called River City Ransom - Underground was released for PC. The remake was done in the style of 8 bit beat 'em up. The principles remain the same.
The main highlight is the combat system - in the game there are more than five hundred unique techniques and strikes, "specially invented for spectacular street fights."
The game is quite voluminous, with as many as 140 levels and 30 types of enemies. As you progress, you can develop your fighters: while destroying enemies, you will earn money, which you can then spend on improving the characteristics of the hero, as well as unlocking new techniques and movements. Fans of old school Beat 'em ups will definitely appreciate it.
River City Girls 2019

In 2019, a spin-off series called River City Girls was released.
Here we have two heroines at our disposal. The graphics remained in the pixel art style, but became more detailed. According to the plot, our heroines are girlfriends of the characters from River City Ransom. The comrades have been kidnapped, and our girls go to rescue the guys. The game has excellent music that sets the mood. The combat system also remained at the level. Your arsenal will be regularly supplemented with new techniques.
River City Girls has elements of metroidvania. Extensive locations, places inaccessible until a certain moment, and so on. River City Girls is played fun both together and solo. For fans of the genre, I can safely recommend it.
