In 1993, the legendary beat 'em up game Battletoads & Double Dragon: Ultimate Team was released on the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES). It was a freaky crossover (then we did not even know such words) uniting the game worlds of Battletoads from the studio Rare and Double Dragon from the Japanese studio Technos Japan Corporation.
Since the game was fully developed by the studio Rare that released Battletoads, then Battletoads & Double Dragon can be called the second part of Battletoads. We played this masterpiece on Dandy, and other clones of the original NES, in my case it was the Subor console. Battletoads & Double Dragon has also been released on Sega, SNES, and even the Game Boy.
For 28 years, this game has not had a sequel or a remake. And I think everyone will agree that, like the Battletoads franchise, and Battletoads & Double Dragon in particular, it needs a restart, or a decent remaster.
With Microsoft's controversial reboot of Battletoads released in 2020, fans of the Battletoads series have lost hope of a decent remake. But still, this series deserves a good remake!
As it became known, a remake of Battletoads & Double Dragon: Ultimate Team is being developed right now by a fan. Dmitry, that is the name of the developer, promises to be ready by 2022.
At the moment, the first level is almost completely ready. Dmitry develops the game on his own, turning to the services of freelancers, as well as not indifferent fans of this legendary game.
